Runaways: Chapter 6

Runaways: Chapter 6

Irene Vasilatos

I feel something coming, I don’t know what it is.

Everything has changed in the past few days. My father died,  I got into fights with Gabe several times, I lost my temper, and not only that but now Gabe is being weird around me. I don’t understand it at all. It’s giving me a sense that he doesn’t want to be around me anymore. On the way to work, I bit my nails. I never bit my nails, but now I am. This is… unusual…. I got to work, worried so much my nails were bitten down to a stump. Gabe looked at me with wide eyes, and when we made eye contact, he looked away.

“Gabe. What is going on?” No response. “Gabe.” Time to put my annoying girl skills into action. I needed to get answers. But right before I could, our boss told us to go home. “Why? Do we have a vacation day?” I asked. He explained that we might have a little affair tomorrow, so he just wanted to keep us safe, by sending us to our apartments. Odd. We never get these kinds of breaks. Gabe gave me a look again. This time, he looked red like tomato red. He must have thought I was giving him a look of shame, and he sprinted out of the room.

I sat in my apartment, wondering what would happen tomorrow. I rolled around my bed, anxious and tugging at Nigel’s ear. Nigel was always there when I needed him. He was a little stuffed frog I had ever since birth. Whenever I cried or got a boo-boo, he was there for me. Well, my parents were anyway, and they brought it with them. I hesitated to go to the phone. What if I say something and Gabe hates me again? don’t know, and I don’t care, because if tomorrow is a bad day, I don’t want to waste it.I dialed his number.

Hello?

Gabe! Hi!

Oh…Hi Kelly

I’m sorry to bother you, but I wanted to tell you something.

Mhm

If tomorrow is a bad day, I’m happy I spent my life with you.

No response. He hung up once I finished my sentence. Shoot.

“Stupid, stupid, stupid….”
