“Rubber Bands”

Rubber Bands

Eva Dominguez, Staff Writer

It’s hard to change.

If we try to reach out for,

Hope,

Equality,

Faith,

we just snap back into place.

But if we were tied together we could reach farther

We could touch the stars

Everything we’re missing, could be found

Everything thing we need, could be waiting for us

We could change

We could put the pain in the past,

Bury hate with the hatchet,

Put the struggle in the safe and throw away the key.

Because someday it’ll snap,

It’ll break.

Barriers,

Walls,

We’ve built to separate us

Will crumble, nothing but specks of resentment in a loving embrace

We are the hope,

The new generation,

The generation of tied rubber bands.
