Recently the NSMS Animal Rights Club went to Gatto Pup and Friends to visit the shelter and learn about the work they do there.
Gatto Pup and Friends is an elderly dog shelter that houses dogs that have been left by their owners. They rescue dogs when their old owners have to go into hospice and can’t take care of their furry friends. Additionally, after the pandemic, they took in a lot of dogs whose owners changed their minds.
The Animal Rights Club brought a pick-up truck full of donations and had the opportunity to meet some of the residents of Gatto Pup and Friends. Lemon, a deaf and blind 18 year old dog who wears a diaper but couldn’t have been cuter. Salt, another elderly dog whose brother Pepper had recently passed, was rescued from a kill shelter. The owners Joe and Bessy Gatto have 12 dogs of their own, but all of the dogs available for adoption stay at their house…26 dogs! Many of these dogs are in their last chapter but Gatto Pup and Friends provide a loving home and a nice place to stay. Perhaps they can find a new home with you!
