Wicked or Wicked: For Good?
The movie, Wicked was released on November 22, 2024 and the movie, Wicked: For Good (the 2nd part) was released on November 21, 2025. Both movies portray a magical but an emotional story that focuses on two girls. They’re no longer in just school, they’re now facing the bigger world; the real world. Elphaba is brilliant, passionate, and a fighter for animal rights. But she’s often misunderstood for a villain with magic, with powers. Glinda, on the other hand, is adored and loved by everyone. She’s bubbly, popular, and a “good girl” who only wears pink and white. But both of them change, change in a way where they can’t go back to. Glinda evolves into the “Good Witch” and is honored by the people; Glinda has really moved up in ranking. But Elphaba, her path is going the opposite direction. She’s represented as an outcast and is not loved, at all. Both of them miss each other, their bond, their friendship that they had. Since I don’t want to dig in further, I’ll just show you the results for which movie was choose as to “be better” and their reasons! We’ll also be talking about the question that echoes throughout both movies,
“Are people born wicked, or do they have wickedness thrust upon them?”
Of the 45 people I was able to get votes from, 42 people say that wickedness is thrust upon them. This question really makes you think because was Elphaba really ever evil? Or was she simply standing up for something she believed in? The question unpacks themes of friendship, power, prejudice, and morality, showing how Elphaba is defined by others. Ultimately, both movies suggest that people aren’t simply born wicked or the other. Their actions, the system they live in, and the stories told about them shape who they become, blurring lines between good and evil.
Which movie is better?
All in all, Wicked: For Good, is chosen to be better. Ariella from 7th grade said, “I picked this answer because Wicked For Good was an amazing add on to Wicked one, with cliff hangers and turning points. Even if you didn’t watch Wicked 1 Wicked 2 would’ve still been easy to understand.” Now most people who choose Wicked to be the better movie says that they knew the songs better. But personally I would be able to argue that Wicked: For Good has more action, therefore, it makes it more fun. Now Lienna from 7th grade has a counter argument, “Wicked has more action and has a better story line, in my opinion. Wicked: For Good had great action, too, but didn’t seem like there was enough NEW action, you know?”
