Many students at NSMS choose to take the school lunch. There are various lunch options that occur repeatedly throughout the year, but what are the most common? I’ve randomly selected six month’s lunch menus: May 2026, March 2026, June 2024, March 2023, and October 2021. My results do not include alternate options, such as various types of sandwiches, salads, and bagels, or breakfast options; muffin or cereal. It also does not include the 26 snack options or 10 beverage options. My results only use the name of the lunch itself, excluding the second part. Uncommon lunches with two or less instances have been placed in the “Other (non-chicken)” category if they do not contain chicken, and uncommon lunches in which chicken is involved have been placed into “Other (chicken)” category. In my results, I have found that the most frequently served lunch is pizza, pasta being a close second.
What about students’ most favored lunches, though? I interviewed an anonymous seventh grader, who said, “My least favorite has to be the hamburger, because I don’t eat meat and it looked the worst. My favorite is probably the taco, because it tastes good, probably. Pasta is pretty good, both without meat”. Another anonymous seventh grader noted, “Um, I love the chicken Caesar salad but I hate the barbeque chicken. I hate the mac and cheese”.
