BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! My alarm clock rang. I hopped out of bed ready to start a Friday. I am so glad that it’s a Friday, and then tomorrow I can sleep in. As I rolled out of bed I saw that the sun had already risen and was shining so bright. It was warm and made a cast that looked like a rainbow. It makes me feel so cozy inside. I love waking up to that. I stumbled to my bathroom not looking where I’m going and started brushing my teeth half asleep. I walked out of the bathroom feeling refreshed and ready. I slid on my clothes and styled my hair. I hopped down the stairs one by one. I snatched a banana and walked out the door.
“I’m leaving!” I yelled to my parents, “ Love you!”
“Bye, have a fun day at school. Love you too!”
I stepped into the bus and found a seat. I plopped down still feeling so tired. I pulled out my phone from my bag, put in my ear buds and stared outside the window.
“ Hey! There you are” I yelled at Sabrina jumping off the bus.
“Oh! Hey. You scared me. Did you finish your math homework? It was so hard.” Sabrina asked.
“ Yeah. Actually I thought it was pretty easy.”
We walked into school together ready to start the torturous school day. We had all the same classes together and so did my other best friend. We are like the best friend trio. I love it.
I walk into my first period class ready to learn about boring science. Then I have Spanish but we really don’t do anything in this class so I pull out my book and read for the whole period. The third period is my favorite. We have the best teacher and I sit next to both of my friends too.
“ Ok. Today in class we are going to be learning about the 13 colonies….” my teacher screamed at the class.
RING!!!!!
I jumped out of my seat and went straight to English. I love to get there early and read before everyone else comes because then it’s just hectic. After the late bell rings I sadly put my book away and take out my notebook and start to write notes to get ahead. So did Sabrina and Aria. We all ran together ready to read. They have been my best friends since childhood and both have a great personality. They are always loyal, kind, helpful and will always be there for me.
Twenty minutes into the period we are working on our essays and it’s loud in the classroom. While I was daydreaming staring outside the window, I noticed five vans pull up in front of the school. I wondered why those vans came to my school. My teacher started shouting, “Lila! Lila! Lila!” Then, there it went. A gunshot, out of nowhere. My teacher didn’t need to ask why I was staring outside the window anymore. The whole class went silent. I could feel shivers up my spine. My teacher quickly told us to hush and be silent. We heard footsteps coming this way. I was right next to the door.
“Lila, come sit with Sabrina,” my English teacher whispered.
I quietly sat up and quickly rushed over to the open seat next to Sabrina. I could hear music playing. The sound that my parents told me about. My parents always told me that if I ever heard that music, to run. Wait, but there was one more thing. If I was in school and in danger to reach into my bag and grab the gun from the inner pocket. Why would I carry a gun to school? People might wonder that. My parents were in the French army and once they realized what the army was actually doing they put a stop to it and left. They have been training me because they knew this would happen. I never use it unless it is a real emergency. I grabbed my bag and rushed my hand out with a gun. All the students were looking at me.
“ Lila. Put the gun down,” my teacher warned sternly.
I didn’t, I stood up and walked right to the door. The music was getting louder by the second. I kicked down the door and was ready. “This is the moment all my training would come in hand, I got this,” I thought to myself.
In walked three armed men. The students and teacher were yelling and were so scared. The men were tall and seemed so scary! They walked around with their weapons. They didn’t care if they were to kill me but they started shooting. The class screamed and they were all yelling at me to come over because they were so worried, except Sabrina and Aria. They rushed over to me, kicking the desk down as a cover and were there with me. I jumped up and gave the gun to Aria. Everyone was getting closer filming thinking that this is all an act or something.
“ Aria, start shooting anyone who walks through the door,” I yelled at her.
She gave me a confused and scared look but nodded.
I ran over and went into action. I went with a big jump and punched the first person. He didn’t flinch. Then he pushed me back. That’s when I got really mad. I grabbed the gun from Aria and started shooting. Jumping off tables kicking, sliding, and punching. Either knocking them unconscious or killing them. I didn’t care. They are never going to take me away again. Not after what happened. I remember that day like it was just yesterday. We were still living in Florida and they found us. They almost killed my parents and took me away. My parents figured out how to get me back but they never really defeated the army. They were too powerful. That’s when the loud speaker went over.
“ Lila, put the gun down. You know who this is and yes I am here to take you away again but it’s for the greater good,” yelled the French army director.
“No! You already took me away once, you’re not going to do that again” I screamed back with frustration.
I started shooting again. Kicking people down while having Aria and Sabrina behind me scared for dear life. I couldn’t believe what was happening but when I got down to the lower level I saw him. The head. The leader. Who had my parents hostage.
“Come with me,” he calmly said
I walked over, dropped the gun and got patted down. After that I walked over to the leader with my friends behind a\me and he didn’t care and took all three of us. They were with me by my side and even though I was going under, being taken away by these men, I couldn’t be more proud. My friends are following me meant the world to me. I loved spending time with my friends, going out for dessert and reading books together. I loved being a 12 year old girl .
When we arrived, we were all thrown into a room. We were stuck and had no way out. I have to escape. No, we, we all have to leave.
“Why did you follow me?”, I asked.
“We’re with you until the end of the line,” they both said at the same time like they practiced or something. I smiled back at them and told them everything. My past, why I couldn’t hang out with them so often, and why I haven’t been able to go to parties lately. All the things I wanted to do as a 12 year old girl with my friends, I sometimes just couldn’t do!
“We have to figure a way out. The door is shut and we are stuck. It’s made of some sort of metal,” Aria told us.
“Ok. Let’s think. I don’t have anything that can help us,” I sadly told them.
“How about we kick it down?” Sabrina asked.
“Be my guest.”
Sabrina kicked the door so hard that she fell down after but there wasn’t even a scratch. We sat in silence for another hour in disappointment, all trying to think of ideas but getting nowhere. I had an idea but there was no way it would work but it was worth a try.
“Wait! There’s a mirror. We can break the mirror and use the sharp pieces of glass to try to cut through because it looks like one of those easy metals that if we find a soft spot we can cut through. We will need a well thought out plan though.
“Ok. yeah, that could work. We will need a way to get to your parents also and they are probably also stuck in one of the rooms like this one,” said Aria
“Ok, everyone listen because im not going to repeat it again. What we are going to do is break the mirror but they have cameras so we need to be quick. Then we will quickly take down the cameras. After we break the mirror, Aria will trip and fall into the mirror and break it. I will go over and grab the sharpest piece I can find. Sabrina will hold a grudge. We will walk over and try to break free and pretend that we have nothing to do. Once we get it to the point that we can get through we will give you a sign. You break the camera and run. Find the room that has the most guards and get my parents out. After that, we run South and get in a jet and leave. Understand?” I asked out of breath from all that talking.
They both nodded, we followed the plan, broke the mirror and got out. We ran, found the guards and I took them out and broke my parents out. They were shocked but realized that there was no time for a family reunion. We ran South for a couple of minutes having the guards chase after us. We got onto a jet as fast as we could and left.
“Is everyone good?” I asked, still catching my breath.
“Yeah. We are good. How about you girls?” My parents asked back.
“We’re good. Just tired. Where are we going,” I asked.
“We are dropping your friends off then moving to Ohio where they can’t reach us,” My mom said looking away.
“What!” I yelled, “ I am not moving again. I have two best friends that had my back and went in with me. I am not leaving them.”
“I know but we have to. You can text them and go back whenever, but we have to go. It will be better for everyone,” my dad said calmly.
I didn’t talk to them the whole time back and when we went to the stop to drop off Aria and Sabina I went out with them and said goodbye. I gave them a hug and whispered to them ,“ I’m with you till the end of the line.” We hugged one more time and I started crying, walked away slowly and faced my head down.
When we got to Ohio I walked into my new room . I felt disappointed because I wasn’t going to see my friends again but grateful because I could still keep in touch which took some of the loneliness feeling away from living in a new state. I started texting. I knew that we would all still be best friends no matter what, they were there for me and I will always be there for them too even if we were further apart by location.
